Want to know if you are likely to have zits? Take a look at your parents and your siblings. If they have or have had acne, chances are you will have pimples too. Hormones cause zits and your hormone levels are largely determined by your genes. Following a holistic pimple treatment program can help you to “rebalance” your hormones and possibly prevent pimples in the future. There are some other steps you can take to help minimize your pimples even if it is difficult to prevent them completely.

The P.acnes bacteria that lives on the surface of your skin infects your blackheads and whiteheads and turns them into pimples. This bacteria is not the cause of acne, but if you kill the bacteria, you might be able to prevent pimples from developing.

One of the best ways to not irritate your skin and not spread  infection is to wash your skin properly. When it comes to washing your skin, keep it simple. Using lukewarm water, clean your skin two times per daily with a mild cleanser such as Cetaphil or a very gentle soap like Dove. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry with a clean soft cotton towel. That’s all you need to do. Don’t clean your face more than that because you might aggravate your acne instead of helping it.

If you have mild acne, you might want to try one of the over the counter gels that contain 2.5% benzoyl peroxide. Clinical studies have demonstrated that it is not necessary to use stronger concentrations of benzoyl peroxide. In fact, you might aggravate your skin if you try stronger and even prescription-strength creams or gels. Don’t apply it to your whole face, but don’t spot-treat either. You should spread a thin layer over your acne-prone areas whether you currently have acne or not. Will this be enough to prevent pimples? Probably not completely but it will prevent some of your blackheads from erupting into zits. Unfortunately, topical pimple treatments like benzoyl peroxide are only useful for mild acne. If you have moderate or severe acne, it won’t do much good at all.

How to prevent pimples – Can you do anything else?

Stop smoking. The blood flow to your skin is reduced if you smoke. This makes your skin less healthy and more prone to infection. As if you don’t have enough good reasons to stop smoking, do it for your skin. Smoking doesn’t lead directly to pimples, but it sure doesn’t help. Kick that habit.

Reduce Stress: Since stress causes a surge in androgen hormone levels, stress causes break outs. So another way of preventing pimples is to learn to cope with your stress. You can learn some relaxation techniques if your job is too stressful.   If it’s exam time… well, take comfort in the knowledge that they will be over soon!

Watch Your diet: Even if dermatologists are only now starting to admit it, there is a connection between diet and acne. You should keep track of the food you eat and take note of your break outs. You might find that certain foods that you eat seem to trigger your breakouts. Dairy is a common culprit. By cutting dairy from your diet, you might see fewer pimples. Some people have breakouts triggered by hydrogenated oils, nuts and sugar. So keeping track of your diet and cutting out your own trigger foods might help to prevent pimples.

Don’t pick or rub your skin! Listen to your mother on this one. Don’t pick, squeeze or pop anything on your face. I know it’s tempting and we’ve all done it, but chances are your acne will be more persistent and get worse if you don’t take this advice. This includes using those “strips” to rip out your blackheads. Any time you aggravate your skin, you increase the chances that it’s going to get infected. If you don’t want breakouts, don’t mess with your blackheads and whiteheads. Let them clear up on their own. Hide them with makeup instead.

What is really the best way to prevent pimples? The best way to prevent pimples permanently, and the way that I really believe in, is to invest in holistic acne treatment programs such as the Acne No More system. That’s because your problem is ultimately the result of a hormone imbalance and not bad hygiene or bacteria. Hormones. The best thing you can do is follow the recommendations of the holistic acne treatment programs to make yourself as healthy as you can be, balance your hormones, and clear acne. I wish you luck with whatever you do, but remember – don’t do anything that aggravates your skin – you’ll just make it worse and you’ll actually cause pimples, not prevent them.
