Many people could benefit from an acne diet. We’ve all heard that chocolate gives you pimples. Almost all of us have. So instead of causing a break out, you could prevent it by watching what you eat.

However, an acne diet can be hard to create for a large number of people. It is highly personal and based on your body’s unique responses to food. There are guidelines, but your progress will largely be trial and error. Watch your skin carefully. Write a journal. You could even take pictures a few times a week. If and when your skin clears, stick to the diet that you were using at that time.

The following are some easy guidelines to help get you started on an acne diet:

* You need to increase your protein - Many dermatologists are under the belief that protein is connected with clearer skin. The reason for this belief is because protein has an enzyme that will limit the production of oils. Oily skin has always been susceptible to breakouts.

* Carbohydrates are not good - You don’t have to completely cut carbs out. But you should try to limit your intake so that they are about 40 percent of your diet. This is because compounds in carbohydrates can stimulate oil production. This is the reason that junk food has the reputation that it causes acne. In reality junk food just has a high carb content.

* Consume green tea - If you can, drink real green tea. The best type of green tea is the kind you brew at home. However, if you really don’t like it, then try the natural green tea drinks. Green tea holds back androgen production. Breakouts can be caused by the hormone called androgen.

* Restrict your salt intake - Most salt contains iodine. Which is why table salt is sometimes called “iodized salt.” Of course for some people with acne, iodine can cause big breakouts.

In addition to watching your diet, you should carefully watch what you put on your face. You should know what ingredients are in your beauty products if you have acne. Those who are prone to acne should look for oil free moisturizers. These are least likely to cause a breakout. Mineral makeups are a good investment, if you wear makeup. Dermatologists are under the belief that mineral makeup can fully help alleviate your acne problems while enhancing the results of your acne diet.
